The association
Originally, the association "Henri 1er Beauclerc" organized the very first medieval market.
At the end of this, Gilles de Champ, then Vice-president of the Syndicat d'Initiative de Domfront, wanted to continue this adventure and supported by lovers and enthusiasts of the history of Domfront, he created in 1993 an association Law 1901, "Les Médiévales de Domfront".
The objectives of the association are multiple and aim to design, organize, promote and carry out events and activities of a medieval nature aimed at enhancing the Domfrontais heritage.
The association is made up of a Board of Directors whose members are divided into several committees: troops, craftsmen, decoration, costumes, catering, communication and logistics.
Several months of research are needed to develop the final program. For this, we have to carry out internet research, trips to other medieval festivals (Dinan, Bayeux, Souvigny, Moncontour, etc.) but also participation in the Salon Fous d'Histoire in Pontoise organized by the FFSH
Our event takes place every two years (odd year), the first weekend of August in the heart of the Medieval City of Domfront. Enjoying an authentic character with its many cobbled streets, its half-timbered houses and its 11th century keep, it is perfect for organizing our artisans market punctuated with street entertainment.
On the site of the keep, we set up medieval camps (daily and military life), educational activities for children as well as a knighthood tournament. We also bring in craftsmen to revive old techniques (for example for the past years: builders for construction techniques but also master glassmaker for the realization of stained glass).
